2016 MSHA Fatalgram Summary

As of December 30, 2016, MSHA has reported that there has been 16 MNM fatalities as a result of a number of incidences including unloading of material, equipment operations, blasting, electrical shock, fall, and embankment failure, falling highway material, and equipment overturning, etc.

Unfortunately, the last fatal identified on the list occurred with the state of Michigan

Fatal #16 –Machinery – SUR  Michigan

On Sunday, October 9, 2016, a 61-year-old equipment operator was fatally injured at a sand mine.  The screen plant was being attached to a front-end loader in preparation of being moved into the pit.  The victim was proceeding to hook them together when the equipment moved pinning the victim.  The victim was later discovered injured and leaning against the loader bucket.  The victim died of his injuries the following day.
