MAA Influences Changes to MDOTs Quality Procedure Manual

Michigan Department of Transportation

As a result of continual discussions with MDOT, MAA was able to positively affect the recently released optimized aggregate gradation section of the MDOT Materials Quality Procedure Manual.  These changes that impact requirements for optimized aggregates for Grades DM, S2M, and P1M concrete and are summarized as follows:

Section 4.13.04.D.a.3 (page 141 of 317)

  • The minimum sum of the percent retained on two consecutive sieves was revised from 13% to 10%.

Section 4.13.04.D.a.4 (page 141 of 317)

  • The minimum individual percent retained on each sieve of the combined aggregate gradation was revised from 5% to 4%.

MAA views these changes as beneficial to the aggregate industry as they should help alleviate problems that have been occurring with 6AA on the ¾ screen as well as the variety of 2NS – 2.7 FM issues.
