Michigan House of Representatives – Projected Leadership Races

Update from Kelley Cawthorne – Michigan House of Representatives – Projected Leadership Races

2016 is an election year for the Michigan House of Representatives.  In the term limited era, this means leadership elections often get heated the closer we get to November.

This year all three of the major leadership posts – Speaker, Speaker Pro Tem, Floor Leader – will be contested on the Republican side of the isle.

Representatives Tom Leonard (R) and Rob VerHeulen (R) are running for Speaker.  Dan Lauwers (R), Gary Glenn, Daniela Garcia (R) and Mike Webber (R) are believed to be running for floor leader.

On the other side of the isle both top positions will remain the same with Representative Tim Greimel (D), maintaining his post as Leader and Representative Sam Singh (D) maintaining the Floor Leader position.

Of course, all of this is predicated on which party holds the majority.  Are any of your legislators on this list?

If you have any questions about not only these races but other races across the state, please contact the MAA Office at 517-381-1732 or Dave Ladd, MAA’s Legislative Consultant from the offices of Kelley Cawthorne, at 517-303-6131
