MSHA Update

Enhanced enforcement implementation triggered from “Rules to Live By” and exam rule violations set to begin July 1st

MSHA’s Assistant Secretary Joseph A. Main, recently announced that beginning July 1, 2016, MSHA will implement enhanced enforcement of the “Rules to Live By” (RLB) and the Part 75 Examinations of Work Areas in Underground Coal Mines for Violations of Mandatory Health or Safety Standards (exam) rule standards to improve mine site compliance and prevent re-occurring mining deaths. The “Rules to Live By” and exam rule standards address conditions that are linked to the most frequent mining deaths and need to have a high priority if deaths are to be prevented.
