The Michigan Aggregates Association and the Michigan Department of Labor, Energy and Economic Growth have put together a “Tailgate Training Manual” for the aggregates industry. Included in the manual are topic sheets (that can be used as guides for conducting 5-10 minute weekly safety meetings) and sign in sheets.
Tailgate Training sessions are designed to keep your employees up to date on how to avoid work related injuries and illness.
A Tailgate Training session should present information that focuses on actual safety issues in your facility. If you use mobile equipment – discuss the safe operation of mobile equipment. If you have had problems with a specific type of machine or process – talk about that.
As always, you Tailgate Training session should be short in duration, do it in a relaxed atmosphere, and make sure that you encourage your employees to participate in the discussion and let them suggest future topics.
